- What is SubProfile?
Answer: SubProfile is a free service that allows AOL Instant Messenger users to create more customized AIM profiles. With SubProfile, you can create a longer AIM profile and add a counter, visitor log, guestbook, poll, quiz and more in your AIM profile. Check out our complete list of features.
- Whenever I try to view my SubProfile, it says "Error Loading Content." When I try to login to my account, it says "Invalid Username." I have been able to view my SubProfile and login to my account in the past.
Answer: This is most likely the result of a temporary server problem. Please wait 24 hours and try again. If the problem persists, please contact tech support.
- When I try to login, it says "Invalid Password." However, I am certain I am using the correct password.
Answer: Verify that you are using the correct password by using our password retrieval page (note this only works if you have not changed your password). Also, if you are attempting to login around 12:00 AM EST (between 11:00 PM and 1:00 AM), you may need to wait a few minutes before trying again. We perform daily maintenance around this time, and this sometimes prevents users from being able to log in.
- How do I import my old SubProfile into Version 3?
Answer: First sign up for a new account on SubProfile Version 3. Once you login to your SubProfile v3 account, you will be given the option to import your old SubProfile.
- I forgot my username and/or password. How do I retrieve it?
Answer: Please use our password retrieval page.
- The password I got from Password Retrieval doesn't work. Why?
Answer: If you changed your password at any time, the Password Retrieval feature no longer works.
- How come the time shown on my Visitor Log, Sub-Journal, Guestbook, etc. is wrong?
Answer: The time displayed is Eastern Standard Time. We are looking into a way to fix this.
- Why can't I add non-SubProfile v3 users to my Sub-Friends section?
Answer: Currently, you can only link to Sub-Friends that are using SubProfile Version 3. We will eventually be getting rid of the old SubProfile (after we give users time to convert), so we are not letting SubProfile Version 3 users link to users on the old SubProfile servers.
- How come I can't import my old guestbook and visitor log entries into SubProfile Version 3?
Answer: Today (8/09) we added Guestbook Entries to our Importer, so you can now import your old guestbook entries into SubProfile v3. However, because the format of the visitor log is different in SubProfile v3 than the old SubProfile, you will not be able import visitor log entries or the visitor counter.
- When I make a post in my Sub-Journal, what is the "Music:" field for?
Answer: The "Music:" field is for you to put the music you are currently listening to. You can leave this field blank if you wish.
- Why does my SubProfile open in a new window instead of the AIM profile window?
Answer: Make sure you are using AIM for Windows 4.7 or higher. If not, you can download it here. After you install the new version, you must delete the SubProfile link from your AIM profile, and copy and paste the SubProfile code into your AIM profile again. You can get the SubProfile code by logging in to your account.
- Why doesn't my visitor log work? It doesn't show the screennames of the people who viewed my SubProfile.
Answer: Make sure you are using AIM for Windows 4.7 or higher. If not, you can download it here. After you install the new version, you must delete the SubProfile link from your AIM profile, and copy and paste the SubProfile code into your AIM profile again. - Why doesn't my Guestbook, Sub-Poll, or Sub-Quiz work? It says I need to access the page from AIM, but I am.
Answer: Make sure you are using AIM for Windows 4.7 or higher. If not, you can download it here. After you install the new version, you must delete the SubProfile link from your AIM profile, and copy and paste the SubProfile code into your AIM profile again. You can get the SubProfile code by logging in to your account.
- When I try to copy the SubProfile code into AIM, AIM says there are illegal characters and it does not allow quotation marks.
Answer: Make sure you are copying the code directly into the AIM profile window, and not into a link.
- How do I delete certain entries in my guestbook?
Answer: Log in to your SubProfile account and click on the "Guestbook" tab (in the Step 3: Settings section).
- How can I view my Visitor Log from my SubProfile? There doesn't seem to be a link to the Visitor Log.
Answer: On the top of your SubProfile is a line that reads "This profile has been viewed # times." Click on "viewed" to see your Visitor Log.
- How come the counter sometimes doesn't update when I view a SubProfile?
Answer: If the same person views a SubProfile twice in a row, the counter and visitor log will only count the first visit. Also, if you specified your AIM ScreenName in your Contact Info, your counter and visitor log will also not update if you view your own SubProfile.
- How come the visitor log sometimes doesn't log some of my friends?
Answer: Aside from the same person viewing a SubProfile twice in a row (see previous question), the visitor log also does not log Mac users or users using an outdated version of AIM. This is due to limitations put forth by AOL Instant Messenger, and is beyond the control of SubProfile.
- Why can't I put pictures into my SubProfile?
Answer: Due to limitations in AOL Instant Messenger, images will not display properly in the AIM profile window.
